edit made it less blue due to suggestions! is it any better?

So self-indulgent, sorry. But finally, a contest I can participate in ~ I haven't actually seen the new film but I'm familiar enough with the realm and the original works that I can only see myself as the hedonistic caterpillar. Also it was he that probably left the strongest impression on me in the Disney-version, besides the pencilbirds and the bread-and-butterflies.

I added the monocle and the puff and the blue to go with the Alan Rickmanpillar.

all the swirly stuff is looking really cool *_* And those mushrooms, I love how the spots are actually... things on it, rather than just a color difference.

But admittedly it's hard to look at this picture and actually see anything, haha it's uhm, I think it's because the shadows are just being shadowy but aren't actually accentuating the shape of whatever its cast on? I know you like 'flat' art, but I think in this case it would really help if the background was at least a bit more backgroundy so the body was more distinguishable

Haha yeah me doing a lot of flat stuff is my worst weakness. I just so confused when I have to add depth or shading and then everything ends up looking murky.. but I'm glad I get a lot of good critique over trying stuff like this, too..! So thanks a bunch for critiquing <3

Oh~! I feel like your style really shines here! Especially in the legs!

If you're looking for suggestions though, perhaps a slight value difference/color difference between the figure and the background might help a tad?

Ooh, I'll give it a try later on, maybe. Thank you! (I did try and do that in the pre-emptive colouring stage but ehh I somehow drowned it all under the smoke)

Not at all. Just thought it might give it that extra umph. Plus, when people are scrolling through entries I image contrast will be more likely to catch their attention.
